Public Scoping Meeting and Notice of Preparation of an Environmental Impact Report
The Santa Cruz County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, Zone 7 (District), as California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) lead agency, will prepare an environmental impact report (EIR) for the Pajaro River Flood Risk Management Project (Project) to determine if proposed project actions have the potential to create significant environmental impacts and if so, how such impacts could be avoided, minimized, compensated or mitigated.
Project Title: Pajaro River Flood Risk Management Project
Public Scoping Meeting: A public scoping meeting to receive public input on the EIR’s scope and content will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, February 10, 2020 at the Watsonville Civic Plaza Community Room, 275 Main Street, Fourth Floor, Watsonville, CA 96076.
Project Location: The Project is located within the Pajaro River watershed and includes approximately 10,000 acres of active floodplains in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties, along the lower Pajaro River and Salsipuedes and Corralitos Creeks, and existing bridge crossings at State Routes 1, 129 and 152.
Project Description: The Project purpose is to reduce the probability and consequences of flooding in the City of Watsonville, the Town of Pajaro, and surrounding agricultural lands. The Project includes constructing new setback and tieback levees, improving existing levees by raising levee heights or adding floodwalls, and installing sheet pile walls and erosion protection.
Public Review Period: The District invites community member input on the scope and content of the EIR. The 30-day public scoping period begins January 27, 2020 and ends February 25, 2020. All written comments must be submitted by the February 25, 2020 deadline to the District at 701 Ocean Street, Room 410, Attn: Pajaro River Flood Risk Management Project, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 or emailed to: PajaroProject@santacruzcounty.us.
